Evaluation measures
In addition to collecting traditional demographic data, I Dream measures the efficacy of our curriculums and programs following scientific self reflection and empowerment scales:
1
- EVALUATION MEASURE
Self-reflection and insight scale – youth
(SRIS-Y; Sauter et al., 2010): The SRIS-Y is a 20-item assessment of self-reflection and insight in children and adolescents, adapted from the original SRIS for adults (Grant, Franklin, & Langford, 2002). The SRIS-Y has three subscales: engagement in self-reflection, need for self-reflection, and insight. This self-report measure is administered to all participants.
2
- EVALUATION MEASURE
Empowerment scale
(Rogers et al., 1997): The Empowerment Scale is a 28-item assessment of the personal construct of empowerment in adults. This self-report measure has five subscales: self-esteem/self-efficacy, power/powerlessness, community activism and autonomy, optimism and control over the future, and righteous anger. With the authors’ permission, the original measure has been modified to be more appropriate for adolescents. This measure will is administered to all participants.
3
- EVALUATION MEASURE
Performance impact questionnaire and workshop impact questionnaire
(WolfBrown, 2007): The Performance Impact Questionnaire is an assessment of an audience’s level of preparedness to engage with a live performance (“readiness-to-receive”), as well as the intrinsic impact of the performance on the audience. With the authors’ permission, the original questionnaire has been modified to be more appropriate for students and more relevant to I Dream curriculum. Similarly, the Workshop Impact Questionnaire has been modified from the original measure to be more relevant to the I Dream curriculums. The 15-item self-report questionnaires is administered to the corresponding participants.
4
- EVALUATION MEASURE
Narrative evaluation questionnaire
The Narrative Evaluation Questionnaire is an original measure developed in partnership with the Research and Evaluation Center at Children’s Institute, Inc. to assess the performance and workshop through open-ended questions, allowing participants to provide feedback in their own words. The 5-item assessment is administered to all participants.
